Rev. John Church July 25, 2022

Appalachian Alliance News Letter July 25th, 2022

O gracious God, we remember before you today your servant and apostle James, first among the Twelve to suffer martyrdom for the Name of Jesus Christ; and we pray that you will pour out upon the leaders of your Church that spirit of self-denying service by which alone they may have true authority among your people; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We will have Morning and Evening Prayer via FaceBook live at 6 am and 9 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The services will be on the group page for The Appalachian Alliance of Episcopal Parishes. It is an open group, and if I have not sent an invitation to you, please feel free to join.

Overnight flooding on the night of Jul. 12 and early morning of Jul. 13 in rural Buchanan County forced residents from their homes and left thousands without power. Relief efforts are currently being handled by the United Way of Southwest Virginia. For more information, click here.

Centered: A Christian Discipleship Experience

Centered, a new discipleship series from The Episcopal Church, guides small, gathered communities to get deeply rooted in love with God and one another, so that we grow to look, act, and love more like Jesus. The experience includes an initial three-session training for group facilitators and a core of nine sessions where church members, neighbors, and friends gather to share a meal and prayer; explore a short film and questions about God, belonging and living a meaningful life; and support each other in committing to intentionally center their lives on Jesus and his Way of Love.
