Loading...I think that all of us are people who enjoy going to church knowing the altar has been prepared for that particular service, which be led by responsible people. The money will be picked up, counted and deposited in the bank and all the bills, salaries, and expenses will be taken care of by someone in charge. When there is snow, we know it will be shoveled off the walkways, steps, and porches and the grass will be cut when needed. The church will be cleaned when dirty and someone will pick up those bulletins, prayer books and hymnals that are left in the seats. And what about the music? I used to be one of those church members who assumed there was a Christian Fairy that did all these jobs while we were sleeping.
I have come to appreciate every aspect of the running of the church in order for it to function in the way of meeting our expectations. None of us should be members with high expectations if we are not willing to help out with the various jobs that keep our churches running so smoothly. Many churches fall apart when they lose their pastor because they depended on him/her to do everything. Once that person is gone, no one knows what or how to do any of those jobs. Please don’t be of the mindset that it is not my job, someone else will do it.
Belinda’s back surgery and absence from work in the cluster office has made some of us members at Stras much stronger and more appreciative of all the jobs that have to be done in order to keep our cluster going. The weekly bulletins and monthly newsletters are two examples of what I am referring to. There are taxes that have to be paid and bills that are due.
By learning how to do the various jobs, we can become more independent in knowing that we can continue our worship services regardless of who is sick or incapacitated. We can serve God in many ways and service to our church should be at the top of our priority list.
So, next time you arrive at church, take a good look around and throughout the service and remember – the fairy didn’t do it.
